Virus A/H1N1 claims one more death in Mekong delta province

The General Hospital of the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long yesterday announced an elderly woman succumbed to the influenza A H1N1 virus, taking the death toll to five nationwide.

A 56-year-old woman in Tam BInh District was taken to the hospital when she was experiencing high fever, cough and breathing problem.
Her relatives said that she and relatives went to Da Lat before. She was suffering high fever, cough and breathing problem on July 2. She bought medicines from drug store in Da Lat for self-medication but her condition didn’t abate.
Accordingly, she went to the General Hospital in Tam BInh District for treatment. Despite medical workers’ efforts in treating her, her health was still bad; therefore, she was transferred to the provinces’ hospital on July 5.
Medical workers diagnosed her to have pneumonia, swollen lung and high blood pressure after conducting tests.
She was isolated in the intensive care unit; however, her death due to the H1N1 virus was confirmed later.
Health authority in VInh Long province took her sample to send to Pasteur Institute and according to the test result, the woman was positive for influenza virus A/H1N1.
Health sector in the province was quick to disinfect the woman’s house , neighborhood, and the hospital.
Health authority in the Mekong delta said that influenza A/H1N1 develops complicatedly; hence, residents should be cautious of the disease. When experiencing symptoms such as fever, sore throat, sneeze, muscle pain, they should go to nearby medical clinics for treatment.
