The gift was announced by President Tran Dai Quang during his visit to Cuba in November 2016.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Director General of the Vietnamese General Department of State Reserves Le Van Thoi, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Nguyen Trung Thanh, Director General of the Cuba Food Export-Import Corporation (Allimport) Alejandro Mustelier Zamora, and other senior officials.

Ambassador Thoi recalled the material and spiritual assistance that the Cuban people had given to Vietnamese people in the past, and emphasised the support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the Cuban people’s revolutionary cause.

Alejandro Mustelier Zamora thanked Vietnam for the gift, saying it was a token of friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.

He highlighted the gift’s significance for people in Cuba’s eastern provinces, who had to suffer a major storm last year.
