Bus stations crowded with holidaymakers

With both Reunification and Labor Day holidays falling over the weekend, streams of holidaymakers fleeing Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to return to their hometowns or go on vacation, caused a rush and overcrowding at various bus stations on April 26.

In HCMC, the Mien Dong Bus Station ran out of tickets to Vung Tau, Da Lat and Phan Thiet City. By 8pm on April 26, several transport companies had full bookings for Da Lat and Phan Thiet, and were unable to fulfill the surging demand.

Similar conditions were also found in Mien Tay Bus Station, with most routes heading to the Mekong Delta provinces of Ben Tre, Dong Thap, An Giang and Can Tho City.

The City Public Transport Management Center said they would add another hundred bus trips to meet the increased travel demand during these holidays.
Holidaymakers thronged bus stations in Hanoi on the same day. According to Hanoi Bus Station Management Company, the number of passengers had increased by at least 50 percent from a normal day.

At My Dinh Bus Station, passengers queued in long lines for sometime then became impatient and moved out of the station to buy tickets on buses parked at the front gate of the station who were selling tickets at a higher price.
