In the coming time, the Government will continue to improve the Mekong Delta planning system, especially related to transport infrastructure. In the next five years, the Government will invest more than VND100,000 billion (US$4.2 billion) to develop traffic and transportation in this region.

Thu Thiem 2 Bridge crossing the Saigon River, connecting the city center on the side of District 1 to the Thu Thiem New Urban Area on the side of Thu Duc City, was officially opened to traffic on the morning of April 28 to serve travel needs of citizens on the occasion of the upcoming holiday of the Reunification Day.
After the SGGP Newspaper published a series of articles about traffic knots in the Mekong Delta region with real-life records showing that the transport infrastructure is hindering the development speed of this potential region. The newspaper interviewed Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam about the related issues.
For many years, traffic at the gateways of Ho Chi Minh City has always been overloaded. Especially, the direction to the Mekong Delta provinces is often congested.
