Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 21 chaired a conference to announce the Master Plan and investment promotion program for the Mekong Delta in the 2021-2030 period, with the theme "Mekong Delta: New thinking - New vision - New opportunities - New values”.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Resolution No.78/NQ-CP on the Government action plan implementing the Political Bureau’s Resolution No. 13/NQ/TW on orientations for socio-economic development and defense-security safeguarding in the Mekong Delta until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Fertilizers and pesticides used in the Mekong Delta are 71.9 percent higher than the national average. Amongst provinces, Tien Giang and Dong Thap have approximately three times the national average but the use of pesticides is not effective.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, on June 18, signed Directive No.08/CT-TTg on some tasks to promote sustainable agricultural and rural development in the Mekong Delta, proactively adapting to climate change.
In the coming time, the Government will continue to improve the Mekong Delta planning system, especially related to transport infrastructure. In the next five years, the Government will invest more than VND100,000 billion (US$4.2 billion) to develop traffic and transportation in this region.
The Mekong Delta has not yet been able to bring into full play its potential and advantages due to limited road, waterway and sea transportation; accordingly, the government will build 1,180 kilometers of highways for the region's development, said by seminar participants.
The Southeast provinces of Vietnam have a promising socio-economic development rate; yet, it is the current transport network here that has prevented the region from reaching its fullest potential. It is high time the localities cooperated to address this congestion for a better future.
The Ministry of Transport has recently requested agencies and units to increase the operation of flights to/from Can Tho International Airport. In the coming time, airlines will study to open new flight routes and have more preferential policies on fares for routes to/from this airport.
