The news of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) cooperating with Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VNSL) to build a ‘mega-port’ at Cai Mep River has received contradictory opinions. While this construction might negatively affect Can Gio biosphere reserve, the usefulness of this mega-port in promoting the brand name of Saigon Seaport and boosting overall development of maritime economics cannot be denied.

Corporation proposes construction project of Can Gio Int’l Container Terminal

Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) has proposed the Prime Minister, the People’s Committee of HCMC, the Ministry of Transport and Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) to support a cooperation on building Can Gio International Container Terminal in Can Gio District between the Sai Gon Port under VIMC and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) on March 24.
