Tropical low- pressure systems and storms are forecast to rarely form in the East Sea from now to May, said the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center.
As recent storms triggering prolonged torrential downpours, an increased frequency of huge floods, landslides and flashfloods swept through the Central region, the life of residents were changed. Particularly, the residents live without home and the natural disaster caused losses about lives and property.
Consecutive storms with heavy rains causing serious floods and landslides have hit the central region. As of October 24 evening, the natural disaster killed 119 lives, and left 21 others missing, destroyed thousands of houses and caused a big loss of property of local residents.
Due to consecutive storms and floods, large leaf-vegetable gardens were completely destroyed in Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province. Therefore, after the floods, vegetables became scarce, so the prices of vegetables have also skyrocketed.
One or two storms or low pressure are forecast to appear in the East Sea and are likely to affect Vietnam’s mainland in June, according to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre.
The year 2018 will see about 12 – 14 storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea, some 4 – 6 are forecast to directly affect Vietnam’s mainland, according to the National Hydro-Meteorological Centre (NHMC).
