During meetings with voters in Ho Chi Minh City in districts 3 and 4 on October 18, State President Truong Tan Sang promised that all corruption cases would be strictly dealt with and brought to trial.
Voters raised concerns over issues on wages, policies for grass-root cadres, educational reforms, anti-corruption measures, climate change and territorial sovereignty.
They also expressed the hope that the national salary policy for state employees will be changed so as to attract more talent. They quoted a case of unfairness in which a chairman of a ward, who had been working for over 25 years, had salary lower than an electrician’s.
Furthermore, they were dissatisfied with the worsening traffic conditions with a greater number of traffic accidents, traffic jams and frequent congestion, and increasing incidents of illegal motorbike racing, due to lax traffic rules and penalties.
President Sang shared the worries of voters, stating that it is urgent to change the “backward” national salary policy for public employees, welfare beneficiaries and pensioners to suit the current economic climate.
The President said in context of a difficult economic situation, inflation and wages are the two important issues that need to be settled, with focus on curbing inflation to 17-18 percent by the end of the year and to a single digit number by 2012.
President Sang said the salary policy needs to be reformed at the same time to match people’s basic living expenses and changes should be made in a number of regulations for welfare beneficiaries and pensioners.
He took the occasion to affirm that anti-corruption is an important issue of great concern to the Party and State and tactics for fighting against corruption will be renewed.
