Vietnam wins two medals at World Gymnastics Cup

Vietnamese female gymnasts won two medals at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup which concluded in Mersin, Turkey, on September 2.

Nguyen Doan Quynh Nam won a silver medal in the floor exercise, while Vietnamese American Nguyen Tienna Katelyn took a bronze medal in the balance beam.

With these medals, Vietnam ranked fourth out of six countries. The hosts Turkey topped the medal tally with two golds and one silver.

Bui Trung Thien, head of gymnastics section of the National Sports Administration, said after key players of Vietnam’s gymnastics including Do Thi Ngan Thuong and Nguyen Thi Ha Thanh left their careers, now Vietnam’s female gymnastics has a new talent generation.

Quynh Nam and Nguyen Tienna Katelyn are golden hopes of Vietnam in the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines later this year.

Nguyen has become a naturalised Vietnamese citizen to take part in the international events in Vietnam jersey.
