Rate of Vietnamese kids with asthma highest in Asia

At present, the rate of Vietnamese kids aged 12 with asthma has reached at the highest level in the Asia, said the participants at the press brief in the central city of Da Nang on September 21.

Moreover, the rate of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) amongst patients over 35 years old accounts the region's highest, announced at the meeting held by the Vietnam Medicine Association, the Vietnam Respiratory Society (VNRS), the Vietnam Association against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases.
The meeting was held to announce program “For a Healthy Lung” for the goal of the national program on asthma and COPD launched by the Ministry of Health.
Additionally, the rate of COPD amongst people aged 40 accounts for 4.2 percent of the whole country’s population; of which, the rate of male is 7.1 percent and female is 1.9 percent, said Professor Ngo Quy Chau , president of the Vietnam Respiratory Society.
Tobacco, biodiesel, environmental pollution and tuberculosis are attributable to an increase in COPD.
The program also aims to increase people’s awareness and provide treatment to asthma and CODP patients.
