Photographer Quang Phung wins ‘Bui Xuan Phai-Love for Hanoi’ Award

Photographer Quang Phung (photo) was honored for his pictures on the City of Hanoi with the 6th ‘Bui Xuan Phai-Love for Hanoi’ Award on August 29.

The artist won the Grand Prize for tenacious efforts in taking thousands of photos of historical moments of the capital.

The Work Awards Category of ‘Bui Xuan Phai-Love for Hanoi’ was granted to British diplomat John Ramsden for his collection of about 1,700 photos of Hanoi.

The Job Awards Category went to a group of war veterans for their historic documents honoring Hanoian Martyrs who had scarified their lives on the Chu Tan Kra battlefield in the highland province of Kon Tum during the American War.

The prize was also presented to Japanese archaeologist Nishimura Masanari and five elderly men who are living in the ancient pottery village of Kim Lan in Hanoi's suburban Gia Lam District. The group was praised for their research of antiques and building a museum on ancient pottery in Kim Lan Village.

Japanese archaeologist Nishimura Masanari who had been working for 23 years in Vietnam died in a road accident in Hanoi in June.

The Idea Awards category belonged to a draft of Code of Behaviors to help Hanoians be more elegant and civilized.

Established in 2008, the awards are named after painter Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988), the founder of modern art in Vietnam. He is known for his paintings of Hanoi’s old quarter, landscapes and young women. His works are displayed in several national and international museums. He received the highest national award, the Ho Chi Minh Prize, posthumously in 1996.
