Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a group of law makers met constituents in the capital's Tay Ho District yesterday ahead of the 13th National Assembly's 10th session.
The lawmakers informed constituents that the NA is set to adopt 19 laws and resolutions, give opinions on nine bills and examine reports on socio-economic indicators, the State budget and national target programmes.
The meeting will also mull the enforcement of laws on land use and management at State-owned farms and plantations and contribute ideas to the draft document of the 12th National Party Congress.
Voters hoped the NA would do more to bring about positive changes.
NA deputies answered queries raised during their previous meeting, including those regarding tuition classes, the supervision of judicial bodies and anti-corruption measures.
Constituents were pleased with recent socio-economic performance and foreign relations activities, particularly Party and State leaders' visits to China, the US and Japan.
The draft Law on Belief and Religion also received acclaim for ensuring healthy religious practices.
Speaking highly of the outcomes of the recently-closed Party Central Committee's 12th meeting, constituents affirmed their trust in the Party's leadership and hoped those with high morals and qualifications would be elected.
Concerns over the recent mass purchase of land and commodities by foreigners in localities, higher electricity prices, unemployment among the youth, education-training and developments in the East Sea were also mentioned.
The Party chief informed constituents that the upcoming NA meeting will be the last for 2015 and the 13th tenure, which is scheduled to hold question-and-answer sessions and consider reports on socio-economic performance for 2015 and socio-economic development plans for 2016.
Responding to concerns on lawmaking, he promised to issue fewer framework laws and raise the number of full-time NA deputies.
He also took note of feedback on anti-corruption laws, food safety and hygiene laws, and the prevention of smuggling and fraud.
President talks
Also yesterday, President Truong Tan Sang met with constituents in HCM City's Districts 1 and 4 to hear their proposals ahead of the 10th session of the 13th National Assembly.
The State leader cleared up concerns in various fields raised by voters.
Regarding anti-corruption measures, the President acknowledged the active engagement of the Central Steering Committee for Corruption Prevention and Combat along with localities, ministries and sectors in the field.
He called on local authorities and residents to step up the detection and prevention of corruption.
On the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, the President said it is necessary to build a self-reliant economy and reduce dependence on foreign markets by improving product quality, practicing thrift, and changing the integration mindset.
Integration is to take advantage of external resources and assistance from international friends but it must be based on promoting internal strength, he said.
Regarding the personnel preparation for the 12th National Party Congress, President Sang encouraged constituents to send their feedback to the central personnel sub-committee and the Politburo, saying this is the right and responsibility of citizens.
He added that the building of draft laws needed public feedback.
