One more farm in the northern city of Hai Phong in Vietnam reported African swine fever (ASF) virus is plaguing a herd of pig in Thuy Nguyen District.

Meanwhile the Animal Health Agency said that it stopped outbreaks of ASF in the northern provinces of Thai Binh and Hung Yen, a new outbreak of the fatal virus occurred in Hai Phong.
Right after discovering the outbreak in breeder Vu Van Dat’s pig farm in Chinh My Commune in Thuy Nguyen District, the Husbandry and Animal Health Bureau in Hai Phong took five samples for testing. Test result has shown that of five samples, two were positive for the deadly virus.
Presently, the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development liaised with related agencies in Hai Phong to quarantine the affected areas to handle the new outbreak.
Moreover, the northern provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Thanh Hoa also reported dead pigs without reason and responsible agencies jumped into investigation to verify the cause.
After the news of outbreak of ASF in the North Vietnam, price of pig continuously went down because breeders have sold their animal off for fear of transmission. In many localities, price of pig decreased by VND1,000-VND4,000 per kilogram.
Price of pig maintained in the South because no cases of ASF has been reported. Even, price of pig leaped by VND1,000 – VND3,500 a kilogram in some localities. In Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong delta provinces of Tra Vinh, Ben Tre, and Vinh Long, pigs are fetching VND54,000 - VND57,000 a kilogram ($2.32 - $2.45).
