Vietnam values ties with Russia, says State President

The Government and people of Vietnam treasure and wish to further develop the time-honoured friendly and cooperative relations with Russia , said the Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet.


The President made the statement while receiving Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov who is on an official visit to Vietnam , adding that Russia is an important strategic partner and a faithful friend of Vietnam.

The two sides expressed their pleasure at the development of Vietnam-Russia relationship, especially in the fields of politics, security and national defence, education and training, science and technology as well as economy and trade.

President Triet invited President Dmitry Medvedev to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam.

For his part, Minister Lavrov said President Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin highly value Vietnam-Russia relations over the past years and said he hopes that the two countries will actively implement the signed agreements during President Triet’s visit to Russia in October last year.

He went on to say that Russia wants to accelerate the signing of a cooperative agreement between the two countries’ State Banks.

Also on July 25, while receiving the Russian Foreign Minister, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said Vietnam always attaches importance to the development of its traditional and strategic partnership relations with Russia .

He hailed the fruitful discussion between the Russian minister and the Vietnamese Deputy PM-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem where the two diplomats tried to find to develop bilateral relations.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese state and people will make all efforts to strengthen the two countries’ strategic partnership to promote two-way trade, create favourable conditions for the imports of Vietnamese products to Russia and attract Russian investors to Vietnam .

PM Dung suggested that the two countries should remove obstacles to bolster cooperation in energy, telecommunications and science-technology.

He also required Russian authorities at all levels to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people living there, especially Vietnamese traders at Cherkyzovo market in Moscow to help them overcome difficulties and resume normal life.

Minister Lavrov said the two sides have agreed to further promote Vietnam-Russia relations so as to create good conditions for Russian investors to Vietnam and strengthen the imports of Vietnamese products to Russia as well as activities to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of Vietnam and Russia’ diplomatic ties in 2010, he added.

He proposed that the two countries should discuss a trade-investment action plan until 2012 to remove the difficulties for every project at the next meeting of the intergovernmental committee.

He also re-affirmed the Russian government’s support for Vietnamese community to work and study in Russia , especially for those who do business at Cherkyzovo market.
