Vietnam to build 4,000 bridges in disadvantaged districts

The Prime Minister has just approved the investment policy to build 4,000 bridges in disadvantaged districts where most of ethnic minority groups live to facilitate the travel of local residents in these districts especially in rainy season.

Bridges will be built in 5,237 communes in 450 districts of 50 cities and provinces in the Northwest, the Central Highlands and the Mekong delta. Remote districts will be on the top priority.

Total spending is calculated around VND 8,339 billion (US$376.4 million); of which VND931.7 billion is taken from state budget accounting for 11.2 percent to construct 186 suspension bridges in the first phase as per the Prime Minister’s guideline; VND5,625 billion is from ODA fund accounting for  67.5 percent and VND1,000 billion from local state budget accounting for 11.9 percent  and VND782.28 billion from social contribution, for 9.4 percent.
