Upstream water release abates drought in Mekong Delta

The release of water from the upper reaches of the Mekong River has abated drought and salt intrusion in some areas along Tien and Hau rivers in the Mekong Delta, said the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.

According to the center, the upper reaches’ area will have rain with the precipitation of less than 5mm in places in the upcoming days. However the lower reaches and the southern region of Vietnam will not see rain.
Salt intrusion will worsen early next week when the water flow from the upper reaches slightly reduces but surge back by the weekend.
