Religious activities in the southwestern regions are taking place normally in accordance with the law, Nguyen Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs, said at a regular meeting with 13 southwestern provinces in Vinh Long on July 11.
Xuan observed that the Party and State’s policies have been implemented in daily life, ensuring the right to religious freedom for every people.
The provinces have timely proposed measures to help the Party Committees and the government resolve issues relating to religious policies, he said.
All provinces in the southwestern region have created favourable conditions for religious organisations and followers to practise their religions and as a result, their activities have abided by the law and local authorities’ guidelines.
The majority of religious dignitaries and followers in the region have confidence in the renewal policy of the Party and actively take part in socio-economic development and humanitarian movements.
Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, An Giang, Soc Trang and other provinces have facilitated the legal building and reparation of places of worship and religious facilities.
At the meeting, the provinces presented to the Government Committee for Religious Affairs proposals regarding the construction of and financial support for activities of a Theravada Khmer Buddhist University in Can Tho and the publications of bilingual documents about religions and religious works in areas inhabited by ethnic minority people.
