PM asks HCMC authorities, ministries to prepare for oil spill prevention work

In his dispatch to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Prime Minister asked city authorities to prepare for oil leaking prevention work after a container ship sank in the city’s Can Gio District on October 19.

Vietnamese-flagged container ship Vietsun Integrity with deadweight tonnage of 8,015 tones carrying around 285 containers on the way from HCMC to the northern city of Hai Phong sank in Long Tau River in Can Gio District on October 19 ; luckily, 17 sailors were safe.
For the retrieval of oil from the sunken ship and oil leaking prevention work, the Prime Minister requested the municipal People’s Committee to work with the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and relevant agencies to come up with satisfactory solutions to prevent oil leaking incident.
The Ministry of Transport and concerned organizations were asked to clarify the cause of the incident as well as direct the retrieval of the sunken ship to ensure the river traffic in the spot.
Ministries of Defense, Industry and Trade, Natural Resources and Environment, Public Security all must be ready for the work under the dispatch.
