National Drug Prevention Month to be launched in June

Vietnamese Prime Minister asked government agencies, member bodies of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitute Prevention and Control and city and provincial people’s committees to launch the National Drug Prevention Month in June with the theme “Think before start”

In his direction, the PM asked them to raise information of regulations on drug prevention as well as popularize consequences and significant negative impacts of using, selling drugs especially new drugs such as marijuana, ketamin, heroin.
The Ministry of Information and Communications requested media agencies to increase information of drug prevention in papers and in social network as well as messages to mobile phones.
Vietnamese PM also assigned the Ministry of Public Security to supervise and report the drug prevention month result. Moreover, the ministry ought to bust giant drug rings and “hot spots” of drug as well as issue harsh penalties on individuals and organizations to prompt people to use the drugs.
Meantime, the General Customs must increase supervision over drug and review its procedures to discover loophole that smugglers and traders can take advantage of to transport drug into Vietnam.
On the same day, Director of the HCMC Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Le Minh Tan said that the department has been keeping documents of over 23,500 drug addicts in Ho Chi Minh City, including nearly 12,000 people in drug rehabilitation centers.
He added, however, around 16,000 drug addicts have not been documented and up to 80 percent of them regularly use synthetic drugs in hostels , discotheques and entertainment centers in groups.
