4,000 illegal works threatens railway safety

Yesterday in a meeting at the Saigon Railway Station, the Ministry of Communications and Transport announced its decision, No. 1856/QD-TTg on the restoration of safety for railway and road passage.

To action this decision, from now until 2020 the Ministry of Railways must examine all of the railway routes across the country, consider solutions to the problems and deal with the infringements that are applicable. The Ministry urges organizations and individuals to voluntarily remove structures that have been built illegally.

In addition, the Ministry will put billboards of safety inspected tracks on all of the railway routes, and local authorities will be responsible for controlling and maintaining those areas.

Deputy Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Tai asked the concerned agencies to make a list of “black spots” within the city and prepare annual records of railway accidents. This information will be used in campaigns for the protection of traffic safety.

According to a Government report, last year in 24 cities and provinces that have the railway system, concerned agencies found that more than 4,000 illegally-built works and 3,814 railway crossings have been randomly set up by locals.
