Manager of the Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association Kukrit Arepagorn said that due to high prices of pork caused by the swine fever outbreak in China, Chinese consumers have increased their demand for chicken.

As a result, during the January-July period, China imported around 33,500 tonnes of chicken meat and products from Thailand, a year-on-year increase of 712 percent.

This figure has made China the third largest export market for chicken meat and products from Thailand, following Europe and Japan.

Currently, seven chicken factories in Thailand are certified by China and can export frozen chicken meat and products to the country.

Officials from General Administration of Customs of China recently came to Thailand for a safety inspection of 10 poultry factories. If there are more Thai factories which pass the assessment, exports will increase further.
