Series of bomb blasts hit Myanmar’s Rakhine state

At least four bombs exploded in different places in Sittwe, capital of Myanmar state of Rakhine on February 24 morning, including a residential compound of a senior official.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted announcement of the Myanmar Presidential Office as saying that at least two persons, including a policeman, were injured in the blasts. 

According to Director General of the Presidential Office U Zaw Htay, the four places where the blasts took place included a court, the residential compound of the secretary of township administration, an office and strand road. 

The extent of the damage remains unclear.

Three other unexploded bombs were also detected in the area.

The explosions came almost exactly six months since Myanmar army launched a security campaign in August 2017 when Rohingya rebels raided police posts, killing at least a dozen officers. Nearly 655,000 Rohingya people have fled the fighting to Bangladesh.-VNA
