Over 250 iPhones seized in Tan Son Nhat Airport
Customs officials at Tan Son Nhat Airport yesterday announced they seized the haul of illegal Iphones.
Before, realizing that it is highly likely that Iphones will be smuggled into Vietnam after Apple has officially launched new ‘iPhone XS’ smartphone lately, Customs Department in the airport has adopted measures to prevent illicit transportation of new smartphones.
Custom officials were working relentlessly to discover smuggle and handle violations.
Four American men did not produce legal receipt for the haul as per the regulation; accordingly, custom officials wrote document to keep the Iphone for further investigation.
Deputy chief of the Custom Department in the airport Tran Ngoc Anh said that as per the present law, phone importers must register for quality test when finishing custom formalities.
People are allowed to bring only one Iphone as a person’s personal item and they don’t need to finish the quality check but they have to pay tax because its value is over VND10 million ($426.9).
Passengers are forced to undergo quality check at the Department of Telecommunications if they bring two or more Iphone whose value is worth over VND20 million.
If passengers falling foul of the law will be fined and they will be ordered to re-export their goods
Therefore, custom officials warned passengers should bring only one and write in the custom declaration and pay tax to avoid being fined.
