District gov'ts put down canal encroachment

Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen asked relevant agencies to completely ban canal encroachment narrowing of water flows; subsequently leading to inundation.

In his yesterday document to the Department of Transport, and people’s committees in districts, Mr. Tuyen ordered relevant agencies to hold a press brief to issue correct information of inundation in the city so that city dwellers and experts understand the circumstance.
The Deputy Chairman requested relevant agencies and district administrations to prohibit canal encroachment that make water flow narrow. Chairpersons of people’s committee will be held accountable to handle violation of canal encroachment in the irrigation systems in 2018.
Increasing information of the city policies including coercive activities as per the present law is needed. The steering board for the city’s anti-flood task and the municipal People’s Committee will set up an inspection team to pay unscheduled visit to a district to check anti-flood mission.
Moreover, the team will liaise with Thu Duc People’s Committee and relevant agencies to check the underground water reservoir using Japanese Crosswave technology. Once, its results is proved effective, the city will implement it in other districts.
All relevant agencies will review urban zoning plan and irrigation plan connecting with anti-flood mission to ensure all are synchronous.
