Torrential rains will be triggered by an upper low pressure trough in combination with wind convergence moving from the west to eastward.

By Sunday, the whole northern and north central regions will suffer medium- heavy downpours with an average rainfall of 30- 70 mm within 24 hours.

The highest rainfall in some mountainous provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son and Quang Ninh could reach 50- 100 mm within 24 hours. Shower warning is predicted to hit the capital city of Hanoi since Saturday.

According to a weather forecast for this year’s dry season, a weak El Nino phenomenon condition is expected to remain with 60-70 percent probability in the first haft of the year.

By the second haft of 2019, sea surface temperatures will have a tendency to gradually reduce and expect to become a neutral phase.

The weather agency predicts gusty wind and thunderstorm following strong operation of northeast monsoon in the northern and middle parts of the East Sea from the second half of February to March.

At this time, both the south central, Central Highlands and southern regions could experience little rainfall.

This year’s stormy and rainy season is predicted  to begin later than the same period annually. However, dangerous weather warnings of downpours, thunderstorms, cyclone, lightning and hail will appear in April and May.
