Viet Nam Seeks to Prevent Bird Flu in Humans

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has publicized urgent measures to prevent and fight against bird flu in poultry and humans in the wake of bird flu outbreaks in different nations including Viet Nam.

Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien, head of the National Steering Committee for Preventing Avian Flu Pandemic in Humans, requested sub-committees from ministries, provinces and cities to strengthen their inspections and surveillance over preventive measures against bird flu in humans, especially in high-risk provinces and cities.

When bird flu breaks out, local officials have to bring it to an end immediately.
The Ministry of Culture and Information was required to work with Viet Nam Television and other media agencies to widely publicize preventive measures against bird flu in human.

The World Health Organization said deadly virus H5N1 has spread to almost all continents.

The disease has claimed the lives of 157 people out of the 261 infected reported in Azerbaijan, Cambodia, China, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Thailand, Turkey and Viet Nam.
