During ten years, the sector has performed well in taking care of population quality, providing premarital medical checkup for couples and controlling gender imbalance, head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Population and Family Planning Tran Van Tri said.

In 2018, the rate of pregnant women and newborns undergoing prenatal screening was 82.7 percent and 82.6 percent. The girl and boy ratio was 100/ 105.3.
In the year, approximately 179,165 senior citizens had their health checked exceeding 15 percent of the government’s goal. Moreover, there were 564,500 people using birth control methods accounting for 129 percent compared to the plan.
The population family planning has implemented prenatal screening, diagnosis and treatment in most districts. Furthermore, activities of 70 clubs of elderly people with more than 1,350 members are attracting.
The department has worked with relevant agencies to provide consultation gathering to companies in industrial parks with the participation of more than 6,782 workers and in schools with 10,900 participants.
In response to the national action month on population and population day, the sector will strengthen information of reproductive health for young people in association with more healthcare services.
