Peak season of dengue appears in Mekong delta

There were 45,600 cases of dengue nationwide in eight months and the disease killed 9 people, three of them are from the Mekong delta provinces of Ca Mau, An Giang and Tra Vinh, reported the health sector yesterday.

Most of them had serious complications such as shock, liver damage and gastrointestinal tract bleeding when they were hospitalized.
Though the Mekong delta city of Can Tho has had no death from September 14, it reported 615 infections. Can Tho suffered 140 cases in July and 143 case in August, a year-on-year increase of 19 cases.
Ninh Kieu district of Can Tho  have four outbreaks with 6 victims from August 31 to September 14. This showed dengue is at its peak season in the Mekong delta.
Rainy weather is conducive for dengue outbreaks. Accordingly, local administrations often spray disinfectants in vulnerable areas to control the disease.
However, people sometimes ignore the disease prevention and their poor sanitation and hygiene will unintentionally lead to rise dengue cases.
