Health watchdog requests to prevent, control infectious diseases after flood

In its dispatch to medical clinics in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Health requested to strengthen environment hygiene and prevent contagious diseases after typhoon Usagi, Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung yesterday said.

Beyond damaging and destroying physical infrastructure, natural disasters can lead to outbreaks of infectious diseases.  Specifically, district medical clinics spread information of personal hygiene.
Additionally, people and health sector should take heed to keep environment hygiene, food safety and burying animal corpse as per the Ministry of Health.
Local health infirmaries should enhance environment sanitation in public toilets, landfill sites, animal farms, water supply, high-rise building and residential quarters. Health workers must detect and treat outbreaks of diarrhea, pink eyes, flu, and respiratory diseases especially typhoid and cholera.
