Hanoi builds tumor, cardiovascular center for children

The Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital and the Ministry of Health held a ground breaking ceremony for a tumor and cardiovascular center for children on July 2.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said the country is facing many difficulties and as a result many projects have been delayed due to lack of state funds. Despite this, the Government approved of the project to build the tumor and cardiovascular center for children which was considered important for the country.

The center is expected to alleviate the overload in hospitals for treatment of tumor and cardiovascular conditions in children and become a vibrant scientific research and training centre for local healthcare workers.

Located in the Bach Mai hospital precinct, the center will be 21 storeys’ high and will accommodate 500 beds and will be built at a cost of over VND1, 456 billion.

The funding will be provided from government bonds and other resources of the Bach Mai hospital.

The center is scheduled for completion by 2015.
