HCMC launches inspection over chemical warehouses

Deputy chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen has required district people’s committees to coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and relevant agencies to inspect chemical and aroma business establishments and warehouses citywide.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment director is responsible for urgently removing inflammable and odor emitting chemical warehouses out from residential areas.
The head of HCMC Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (Hepza) should continue reviewing and arranging suitable land plots in these zones for chemical warehouse projects according to plan to facilitate the warehouse removal out from residential areas.
In addition, they should prompt and guide establishments producing, trading and using chemicals to build up plans and solutions to prevent and cope with chemical incidents.
From now until the end of 2019, HCMC Market Management Department will inspect all warehouses in the city with the focus on chemical stores. Those who operate without licenses will be strictly handled and even face criminal prosecution if necessary.
In case doubting the legality of the licenses, the department should work with other competent agencies to inspect and handle violations according to the law. That aims to prevent warehouse operators from taking advantage of these facilities to keep counterfeits and banned substances.
The Department of Industry and Trade director has been asked to continue working with relevant agencies to inspect all chemical and aroma business establishments in the city, especially those locating in residential areas, and transfer cases in need of removal to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment for consideration.
To Kim Bien market in District 5, the Industry and Trade Department should examine aroma and chemical trading in the market and surrounding areas, and crack down on those illegally keeping and extracting toxic chemicals.
