The plant is expected to come into operation in 2019 with the investment capital of VND200 billion and the total capacity of 25 million coconuts a year.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, director general of the group, said that few years ago Vietnamese fresh coconuts had to face severe competition from Thai coconuts which have been long present in the US market.
The company’s coconut export to the US has increased from one container to five containers comprising 100,000 coconuts a week. Total export volume hit four million coconuts from the beginning of this year until October, up 38 percent over the same period last year.
Besides the US, the company has exported coconuts to Canada and Australia with material zones mainly in Ben Tre, Tien Giang, Long An and Tra Vinh provinces.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam has 166,000 hectares of coconut trees. Of these Ben Tre province has over 70,000 hectares.
