Number of Vietnamese students in the US increases

Vietnam is ranked sixth in a list of countries and territories with the largest number of students who are studying in the US in the 2016-2017 academic year, up 4.8 percent, according to the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

The figure includes 15,266 undergraduates and 3,503 postgraduates, accounting for 68 percent and 15.6 percent of the total number of students respectively.
There are also 1,650 Vietnamese students joined non-decree programs, accounting for 7.4 percent; and the remaining 2,019 are students enrolled in Optional Practical Training (OPT), or 9 percent.
The number of Vietnamese students in the US has increased, equivalent to that of Taiwan and higher the number of Japanese students. Engineering, business and management, math and computer science remained the top fields of study for international students.
