E-commerce on mobile devices in VN still unfavorable

Sapo Technology Joint Stock Company (Sapo) cooperated with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM), Zalo Business (a provider of online marketing and sales solutions over the Zalo app), and Lazada (an e-commerce platform) to organize an annual event named Mobile Ecommerce Day 2018 (MEDay) with the theme ‘Sales on mobile devices: Proper understanding and performance’.

The event is to update people with the latest trends and useful experience on e-commerce via mobile phones.

Statistics from iPrice, an online shopping aggregator based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, show that there has been an impressive development in the number of mobile access to websites in Southeast Asia, especially in Vietnam. The average growth rate last year was at 19 percent, accounting for 72 percent of the total number of visits to e-commerce sites.

Sadly, despite this remarkable rise, along with effective support of e-commerce apps on mobile devices, the conversion rate - the percentage of website visitors who buy something on the site – of these devices is still 1.7 times lower than that of computers, according to report from iPrice.

What is more, the value of transactions carried out on computers was from 8 to 20 percent higher than the one on mobile phones.

According to Mr. Tran Trong Tuyen, CEO of Sapo and head of the organization board of the event, many businesses are gradually losing their customers simply because they have not paid much attention on or known the method to improve online shopping experience for their clients and to optimize conversions from computers to mobile devices.

It is high time that concerned enterprises investigated into consumers’ behaviors while taking full advantage of the newest features or applications to optimize advertisements and e-commerce in order to achieve their goals.
