City marks birth anniversary of late President Ton Duc Thang

On afternoon of August 20, HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism  and Ton Duc Thang Museum celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of late President Ton Duc Thang and the 25th founders day of Ton Duc Thang Museum.

Late President Ton Duc Thang was born on August 20, 1888 in An Giang Province. He devoted all his life for the independence and freedom of the People and for the ideals of Communism. He was the first President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

On occasion of his 100th birth anniversary, a gallery themed ‘Life and Career of late President Ton Duc Thang’ was opened in Ton Duc Thang Museum.

Ton Duc Thang Museum is an important museum in the country with a collection of more than 13,500 artifacts, documents and documentary films. The documents cover topics on the life and revolutionary career of late President Ton Duc Thang and his associates, which now are an invaluable heritage for young generations.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hua Ngoc Thuan, Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee; Mr. Phan Van Khai, former Prime Minister; Mr.Tran Trong Tan, former Head of Central Committee for Culture; Professor Vu Khieu and many leaders from Dong Nai and An Giang Provinces.
