Cities and provinces must monitor the market to prevent speculation and unreasonable price surges, and to punish those who violate price regulations, according to a dispatch issued by the Finance Ministry Wednesday.

The ministry asked municipal and provincial finance, transportation and taxation departments to keep a close watch on the implementation of price regulations by transportation companies to prevent unreasonable price increases.

Transport prices are fixed by relevant agencies.

Officials must check price hikes at production and trading companies and report violations to the local people’s committee.

The amount earned from improper price increases will be confiscated, the dispatch said.
