Bird flu outbreaks prompt thorough deal with illegal sales, slaughterhouses

As bird flu outbreaks re-occurred in six provinces and neighboring country, a document signed by Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem was sent to local administrations ordering to increase measures against the disease.

Measures include month-long disinfection campaign from February 23 to March 23.

As per the document, district governments must carry out measures against bird flu by coping with bird flu virus which can transmit from poultry to human in residential blocks, waterfowl and poultry product selling shops, illegal locations to sell chicken.

Additionally, administrators should warn people not to eat water fowl without clear origin and tighten monitor poultry raising to handle outbreaks in time especially to curb the spread of the disease.

Administrators in districts must adopt measures to eliminate illegal shops to sell and slaughter poultry as well as set up quarantine stations in these spots. Market management boards must issue penalties on sales of unoriginal chicken and increase information of food safety to sellers as well as encourage them to sell quarantined water fowl.
