$657,035 allocated for activities to support 6,000 disadvantaged kids

In response to the Action Month for children in June themed “ For a healthy life for kids”, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children is implementing practical activities to support around 6,000 needy kids with total spending of VND15 billion ($657,035).

In the month, the fund will carry out the program “Kids’ smile”, “Kids’ eyes”, “physical disabilities”, “For kids’ heart” by giving learning equipment, scholarships and bicycles for poor students.
Seventy outstanding kids who overcome lots of difficulties to achieve high academic results took part in the national 11th meeting for disadvantaged kids in Hanoi on June 18.
The kids come from 14 cities and provinces across the country gathered at the meeting held by the the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. They visited the National Assembly’s building, Ho Chi Minh Museum, Temple of Literature, famous tourist attractions in Hanoi and participated in games.
The Fund has called for social contributions; subsequently, each student was given VND5 million in cash and gift.
Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang praised all participants for their spirit of overcoming difficulties to achieve good academic results. Amongst them, many have high result in examinations for gifted students and shining examples in following Uncle Ho’s teachings.  President Quang gifted them as an encouragement for better results.
From 2008 to 2017, Vietnamese President has lauded 535 kids in 63 cities and provinces who are from low-income families in distant and disadvantaged districts, island districts, and mountainous districts but have good academic performance.
In localities, the fund for Vietnamese children with hospitals provided screening for children with heart diseases and physical disabilities.
Of 535 disadvantaged kids in the program, 180 are orphans, 12 homeless kids and 20 disabled kids. Despite their difficult family condition, they tried to overcome to have good academic performance.
For instance, student Ho Van Do, born in 1999, in the central province of Quang Nam’s Hiep Duc District who lost father at early age; his mother has to bring up five children; accordingly, in days off, Do must work to earn money. However, his academic performance is quite good; in 2017, he won a scholarship to study in Japan’s IPU International Pacific University.
