Collapse of old building in Ha Noi kills two people

The body of the last victims was found from wreckage hours yesterday after collapse of a two-storey old building at 107 Tran Hung Dao Street in Hoan Kiep District in Hanoi.

Rescuers found the body of Tran Thi Nga, 35, under the rubble after many hours of searching.

Hanoi-based Viet Duc Hospital confirmed Le Thi Huong, 47, dead as she suffered serious multi injuries.

The hospital admitted 5 victims of the collapse. Dr. Ninh Viet Khai from the hospital's Emergency Room said that out of 4 remaining victims, one had severe injuries as s/he suffered fractured hip bone who was transfused 1 liter of blood.

The rest 3 people suffered slight injuries. The hospital was preparing an operation room for victims of the collapsed building.

Meantime, Bach Mai hospital received 2 victims of the collapse includign Nguyen Thi Huyen, 27, in Tay Ho District and Nguyen Thi Tieu, 64, in Hoan Kiem.

Right after hearing the information of the collapsed building, leaders of the Ministry of Health ordered the Department of Health in Hanoi and hospitals to closely liaise with Viet Duc and Bach Mai hospitals to supply personnels and drugs for the best treatment.

Nguyen Quoc Hung, deputy chairman of the People's Committee in Hanoi said that the collapsed building is an ancient building in poor repair which was built in the French domination. Immediately, after the incident, leaders of the district visited and supported families of victims.

 People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District gave VND5 million (US$226) to relatives of dead person and VND1.5 million (US$67.7) to injured persons.

Local government evacuated all people living in the premise of the old building. People's Committee accommodate 61 people of 16 households in CT1 Dinh Cong in Hoang Mai District for temporary living. The administrators also send safe guards to protect people's property and sealed all of them.
