In a report to the Government May 12, the Ministry of Health discussed suspected flu cases and the development of an acute diarrhea virus spreading in the North.

The ministry said that 35 suspected cases of A/H1N1 flu from April 25 to May 12 had tested negative.

On May 11, four people suspected to have A/H1N1 flu were stopped at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports and the border gate Moc Bai in the southern province of  Tay Ninh. Test results have yet to be reported.

The ministry said there were more confirmed infection cases worldwide, with travelers spreading the disease. Vietnam is considered at risk as many international travelers visit Southeast Asia.

On the same day, the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environment instructed provincial authorities to enhance supervision of an acute diarrhea virus in some northern provinces.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology said that 54 people with acute diarrhea had been taken to hospitals from May 6 -11, including five with the virulent vibrio cholera virus.

With people traveling province to province in the current humid hot weather, which helps incubate the virus, the number of cases is likely to rise.
